02.12.08 - Nahum 1:1-15

RE:flect
"The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him
."

It is amazing that in the midst of a poetic chapter of God's fierce anger and wrath, that we find the safety of being the one whom God will fight for. The one who is sinned against, God will rise and fight for. And I am glad for that. Many have never been "caught" but there sins are known to God. And he will rise to fight for the powerless, those who have been oppressed and sinned against. May their oppressors find grace through Jesus! If they do not, or reject the Christ, I am still glad that our God will punish those who deserve it. And, we will find refuge in him, safety in him, and a warrior for us in him.

RE:act
It took me many years to consider this truth... that I pray for those who have committed crimes against others... that they may find GRACE through Jesus Christ. Jesus died for the murderer, rapist, etc. However, I must also consider the holiness of God (how mighty, fearful and awesome it is) and how his holiness rises to fight for himself (people sin against him by disobeying) and for those affected (people who have been sinned against, the blood of the innocent, the victim of rape). I am glad that God has provided a way out, and I am glad that he still will bring judgment and vengence against those who have not sought forgiveness through Christ. How does that make you feel? How do you think about that?

Lord, you are Holy, Holy, Holy! Teach us to see you as holy and righteous.
Lord, you are our refuge. May I cling to you, come to you, in my hour of need.
Lord, thank you for your love and your holiness. I trust you.

"Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!"
Isaiah 6:3b
