02.11.08 - 2Chr. 32:1-31

RE:flect
"So the Lord saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem... and many brought gifts to the Lord to Jerusalem and precious things to Hezekiah king of Judah... In those days Hezekiah became sick and was at the point of death, and he prayed to the Lord, and he answered him and gave him a sign. But Hezekiah did not make return according to the benefit done to him, for his heart was proud..."

Do you also see a humility with the people that their king does not have? I wonder how many people in the world make all kinds of "deals" with God, not ever intending to honor them. "God if you come through... then I will..... ". Here we see the people of Jerusalem thanking God with gifts that actually cost them something! What could you give to God?

RE:act
I suppose we should not be so cavalier as to promise God things that we cannot come through with (or don't intend to). However, be careful if you make an oath to God. For then you will be held to that oath! May we be a people that always is willing to thank God for his gifts, deleiverance and grace with things that actually cost us (to remind ourselves of his greatness).

RE:ply
Lord, teach me to have a heart of thankfulness.
Lord, teach me to give gifts of thanksgiving and help for those around me.
Lord, teach me to see your gifts and react accordingly. And help me not to test you.
Amen.

"The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me; to one who orders his way rightly I will show the salvation of God!"
Psalm 50:23
