12.04.07 RE:ading -- Judges 6:1-40

RE:flect

Okay. so usually this chapter is overshadows by Gideons fleece. He is seen as not having enough faith. This episode is said to not look favorably on Gideon. And this is true. Gideon's faith is commended in the New Testament--however--his fleece is never recognized by scripture to be great way to discover God's will.

BUT let's consider that Gideon did believe God. Perhaps his heart was like that of the father of a child in Mark Chapter 9, " I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!". Nevertheless, Gideon builds an altar for this occasion (recognizing the rituals and traditions of his forefathers--and of that culture as well). He is ordered to have "Peace. Do not be afraid..." Look, Gideon had an encounter with God and needed to remember it.

RE:act

When did you recieve the peace of God? That which is beyond understanding. Have you? It is not a ONE TIME event in scripture that people take the time (perhaps 1/2 a day) to build altars or raise pillars to remember encounters with God. He comes with fire on mountains, and he comes to visit simple men and women under trees as well. Take some time and focus on one of God's characteristics that has affected you (maybe it is "peace also"). And do something, take some time, to create something to remind you that our God is the "God of ________". Song, wood work, poem, drawing, a picture...etc. Make sure you place something in your life that forces you to remember God this way (perhaps you can put it in your school locker!).

Re:ply

Lord, you are the God of peace. Only in you do I find peace in this world.
Lord, you can do everything, anything. Help me to be at peace, patience and trusting when you do not act the way I think you could.
Lord, I also believe. Help me overcome my unbelief. Help me to be like Gideon after you tell me what to do. Help me to not waver, have fear, and test you when you will is obvious!
Thank you for loving me, Lord.

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances--for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.
