02.21.08 - Lamentations 3:1-40

RE:flect
"For the Lord will not cast off forever, but, though he cause grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love; for he does not willingly afflict or grieve the children of men."

Here we see a window into God's heart. Everyone complains that God doesn't care, that he is aloft, or even enjoys the pain of mankind. Well, I am sure those people would have a hard time with me believing in the Revelation of God (his Bible) and that these words are inspired by God. That said, I think the suffering of God (allowing bad things, grief, etc) is a true quality that will always put me in awe. NOT why would God allow bad things to happen - but why would God wish himself to suffer so much as to create a world like this?

RE:act
Think about this today: the Lord does not willingly afflict or grieve the children of men. They bring wrath upon themselves, suffering, evil.... Remember Lamentations chapter 3 when people tell you God doesn't care. No, the horror is that he cares so much that it causes him to suffer also to see us suffer or punished.

RE:ply
Lord, I am utterly speechless in your presence as I contemplate your heart, your suffering, your goodness to the world -- and a world that thinks you are something that you are not. Help me to change that in my small way.

"But if a wicked person turns away from all his sins that he has committed and keeps all my statutes and does what is just and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die. None of the transgressions that he has committed shall be remembered against him; for the righteousness that he has done he shall live. Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Lord God, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live?"
Ezekiel 18:21-23
