RE:flectWho is your Elijah? This is a fascinating chapter. Three times Elisha pledges his loyalty. And finally, with the time comes, he asks for a "double portion" (or extra helping) of the power, ministry and zeal (the word for zeal comes from the idea for fighting, or a sword). All of this is part of asking for a double portion of Elijah's 'spirit'. So who is that person in your life, who you would like to be like, carry on their ministry... and expand it.
RE:act
Write a note to that person today. Or call them. Think it through, what you want to say. Whether you are 12 years old, or 18, or even a parent/sponsor reading these few words on your screen. Who would you honor the most, by removing the grand dreams of your life and "pick up their cloak" and continue what they have started... and expand it?
For me? I have my grandfather who died of cancer several years ago. I hope to have his heart, and the ability to think, dream and see things fresh. I also have a grandfather in law that I have never met. He died before I was born (this is Kathryn's grandfather). It would be an honor for me (based on what others have described of this man) to carry on his work. To set aside all desire to have another "mission" to be created in this world, to serve an existing one in honor of the founder, to expand the dream, for the glory of the Lord of Hosts!
RE:ply
Lord, you are God. I honor you today.
Lord, you have placed _____________ in my life. I wish to be like them. They are on the road to Christ likeness farther than I am. I wish to be like them. Help me.
Lord, thank you for calling us to live in community. Help us to do this.
Lord, my thanks for the impact that one life can have.
"I blessed the Most High, and praised and honored him who lives forever, for his dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom endures from generation to generation; all the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, and he does according to his will among the host of heavenand among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand or say to him, “What have you done?"
Daniel 4:34-35
