RE:flectSolomon chose to seek the benefit of others before himself. Truly this is an event in the same spirit at Jesus' golden rule to "do unto others...". Not that God is a genie in a bottle and he offers Solomon whatever he wants. I think this is more of a test in character... and most test are for OUR benifit, not God's. Solomon passes... he is looking to be the great servant and helper to his countrymen (he also is blessed in many other ways)
RE:act
This is not a scripture for Christians to argue to God with, "God, I have served your church forever... where is my riches, and my blessing?" If you truly give yourself for others, not expecting a reward, a reward will be icing on the cake.
Now, that said... who are those in your life (home, work, school, sports, etc) that you could pray like Solomon for? How could God give you the wisdom to help others (to be his voice to them). What do you know that you should do (exactly what you are doing now!!!!).
RE:ply
Lord, I want to be a better person not just for me, but for others around me.
Lord, this world believes it knows more, is in control of more, but they are just deceived more in many ways.
Lord, help me to bring eternal truth, wisdom and light into the world I live in. Use this small life to testify to your greatness.
"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind." James 1:5-6
