11.19.07 RE:ading -- Numbers 11:4-23, 31-34

RE:flect

Are you satisfied with what you have been given?

If you remember, “manna” was a test to see if Israel would be content with a gift from God (bread from heaven). Apparently they are not that different than us, or visa versa. What I find interesting here is that God is given Israel their desire (meat) but so abundantly that they will have “too much of a good thing” and will hate it. Ever think that one of God’s best forms of discipline, judgment, punishment is to actually let us have what we desire-fully?

RE:act

It would be good today to take some time to contemplate the thing that GOD has given you (like the manna from heaven). What are the blessings and daily signs of God’s love for you that you have gotten use to. Have they gotten mundane? Loving parents. Health. Food. Salvation. The Holy Spirit. The Bible. Friends. If you have food in your fridge, you are better off that 75% of the world today. If you have a bed and a roof, and over $100 in the bank you are better than 92% of the world tonight. Or maybe it’s heaven, are you restless and bored of heaven? Does that mean you are bored with…. God?

Then take some time to look deeply into your life and ask, “What do I crave for, grumble against God with, and what would happen if I got what I wanted—but 10 times more than I asked?”

Re:ply

Lord, you are a gracious God. Loving and compassionate. Who am I that you would think of me? Who are we that you should save us?
Lord, you have given me so much. I can see your goodness. I can see your might. Help me to fully see your wisdom.
Lord, I will trust you. I will not grumble—help me to not grumble—I need your strength to fight from greed, discontentment and jealousy.
Lord, I need you. Nothing but you. Only you. The world and it’s desires may fade away, but your love endures forever.

The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O LORD, endures forever— do not abandon the works of your hands.” Psalm 138:8
