01.18.08 1 Kings 11:28 – 12:24

RE:flect
"David" a significant man. His name is called upon here several times... in the beginning it is to show the love of God for David. That God would honor his promise to David, in spite of the current ruler. Solomon has had his ups or downs. This is a down part (hint, hint).
Then God tells Jeroboam that "IF...THEN". If you obey me (Like David did, your grandfather), then I will make you great. God built up David's house for him, and he will do the same for his grandchild. What was it like to sit and see 12 pieces of your jacket on the ground and know that you can pick 10 of them for yourself? What must it have been like to then realize what this means - the years ahead of family strife, rebellion, etc.?

RE:act
Who is the "David" of your life? I am blessed to say that my grandfather (Glenn) is my hero of the faith, a person I long to be like, to follow his example. Jeroboam had a wonderful example of faith (a faith that had fruits and a harvest) to pick from. And remember the idea of a harvest, that there are temporary good outcomes (apples), but the real hope of the apple tree is to become an orchard (not just producing more fruit each year). Who will you be like, what orchard are you part of?

RE:ply
Lord, make me an orchard for your glory.
Lord, help me to be like Jesus.
Lord, help me to be like the Apostles, and like ______________ whose faith is worth reflecting and following my life.
Lord, help me to see the next 70 years of "orchard time" and prepare for it now.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires."
Galatians 5:22-24
