01.16.08 Proverbs 10:1-23

RE:flect
"A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is a sorrow to his mother." Motivation. Today's thought. All of this list, all the remaining 22 verses, are somewhat based off of the HEART. The one who gives wisdom and knowledge (the parent) to the one who receives (the child). What is your motivation (whether you agree with your parents decisions)? There is nothing in the Bible that talks about curfew, but the Bible does say that parents have the authority. And consider this first (1) Your parents are reacting to their parents, either following a good example, or courageous enough to change and make your life better than theirs, and (2) your parents have to answer to Jesus Christ on how they raised you. And you better believe that their love for him, respect for him is greater (or should be) than their love for you. And they love you a lot!

RE:act
So, question today. Like yesterday...motivation... the heart... will you seek first to please your parents while you are living in their house? There will be a time where you add a deeper friendship to your relationship with your parents. Much of this has to wait till you are in your 20's. For now. Take some time and think about this today. Do something nice for your parents today (Christian or non). Whether they deserve it or not. Serve the Lord Jesus Christ, by obeying your parents. Only if their decisions are against the Bible should you stand for your faith. Sometimes the best reaction is just obedience.

RE:ply
Lord, thank you for your design for the family. Help me to be correct when I view my parents.
Lord, I long to please you. May I make you glad as my true father, and may I also make my parents glad as a child.
Lord, help me to not forget my feelings now, when I am older with children and my own family.

"Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord."
Colossians 3:20
