Keep away from the “devoted things”.
We are a people who live in a world that is not holy. We are not called to separated and create a new country called “Christianity”. Many try to do this.. however we are called to go into the word and preserve the rotting world (like salt to a rotting fish). BUT we are to be careful… what is it that we are taking from this culture. What is it that we are gathering OURSELVES that will bring about OUR OWN destruction? What are the parts of this culture that JESUS would not touch, but YOU embrace? Why? What will this produce in your life?What are the fruits of UNrighteousness? Can a fig come from a thorn bush?
Take some time today to look around at your life.. what you watch, buy, listen to, say, do? Are you different? Is your life style like Jesus’ or not? Again…why?
Lord, I know you can make me different. I know I need to be different.
Lord, help me to bring the sweet smell of Jesus to the rotting life around me. I want to make a difference for you. Show me what to rid myself of, and what to cling to.
“ The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD is on his heavenly throne. He observes the sons of men; his eyes examine them. The LORD examines the righteous, but the wicked and those who love violence his soul hates. On the wicked he will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot. For the LORD is righteous, he loves justice; upright men will see his face.” Psalm 11:4-7
