11.24.07 RE:ading -- Deuteronomy 1:1, 4:7-38

RE:flect

We enter a time of speeches. Deuteronomy is an amazing book. Several speeches from Moses before he dies. Consider what a 120 year old man would have to say to a huge nation of people.

Watch out! Don’t forget what you have seen, heard and witnessed (4:9). Don’t forget the covenant of God (4:13). Don’t forget the salvation from Egypt (4:20). Don’t forget the covenant (again, 4:22). Don’t forget the Lord is a jealous God (4:23). Don’t forget to seek him with all your heart and soul (4:29).

You know… just read verse 32-28 again:

  • 32 Ask now about the former days, long before your time, from the day God created man on the earth; ask from one end of the heavens to the other. Has anything so great as this ever happened, or has anything like it ever been heard of? 33 Has any other people heard the voice of God speaking out of fire, as you have, and lived? 34 Has any god ever tried to take for himself one nation out of another nation, by testings, by miraculous signs and wonders, by war, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, or by great and awesome deeds, like all the things the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your very eyes?
35 You were shown these things so that you might know that the LORD is God; besides him there is no other. 36 From heaven he made you hear his voice to discipline you. On earth he showed you his great fire, and you heard his words from out of the fire. 37 Because he loved your forefathers and chose their descendants after them, he brought you out of Egypt by his Presence and his great strength, 38 to drive out before you nations greater and stronger than you and to bring you into their land to give it to you for your inheritance, as it is today
    .

As we look at Deuteronomy (“repetition of the law”) for a few days, let us understand, again… and again… and again... what is important in life. What we should remember!

RE:act

If you cannot understand what God wants you to remember… how can you act the right way?

The LAW became a slave to sin, but through Jesus we can look at the LAW of God and embrace it as the full expression of God’s character. And in the LAW we again see how we were created, meant, to be. It describes us—what we should do, how we should act. We are not Israelites, but we are created human beings. Created in God's own likeness!

God’s will is usually obvious. Like, for instance, “Don’t make any idols” is pretty obvious. You would be surprised how many times God’s will is mentioned in scripture. Go ahead and search the internet Bible under: “God’s will” “Lord’s will” “will of God” and “will of the Lord” (www.bible.com)

Re:ply

Lord, you are clearer sometimes more than I even can see. Help me to not look deeper when I shouldn’t. Help me to not make up stupid excuses.
Lord help me to understand your wisdom, and to do it.
Lord, help me to remember what you have done on earth, for the Jews, and for me. You are great and good, and I trust you. Show me how to help others trust in you.

Has anything so great as this ever happened, or has anything like it ever been heard of? Has any other people heard the voice of God speaking out of fire, as you have, and lived?” Deuteronomy 4:32-33
