11.14.07 -- RE:ading: Exodus 19:1-6, 17-19; 20:1-17

RE:flect

God comes in awesome wonder in these verses. I have heard it said that the word “awesome” is only used for God and his direct works in Scripture. I am not sure of that—but it sounds pretty honest to me. We learn later that this is a “test” so that the “Fear of God” is put into the hearts of Israel as a healthy reminder to not sin against the HOLY and MIGHTY one.

However, did you notice Chapter 20 verse 2? Before the commands of God are revealed—he reminds them how they came to be where they are… and how that came to be his chosen people. Though he owns the world, they would be precious in his sight. Sometimes we forget what the alternative is without God—namely HELL. He has rescued us from that slaver AND the eternal punishment of life without His presence.

RE:act

Look at your motivation today for a moment. Figure out what God would say to you…

Finish this sentence “ I am the Lord your God who _______________ and ______________.”

Spend a moment thinking about all that God has done for you. And then consider what rights you have given to him, and what calling him LORD actually means! Yep, you guessed it!

RE:ply

Lord, you are my God. You are my Savior. You have freed me from my sinful state, pardoned my punishment, and adopted me as your own child.
Lord, I do not deserve your love, your time or your saving Grace. Help me to understand your heart towards me, and may this change my heart towards you.
Lord, if my motivations are wrong…destroy them and build them new in you!
Lord, thank you for what you have done.
Lord, thank you for what you will do.

For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption—the forgiveness of sins.” (Colossians 1:14)
