11.03.07 RE:ading – Exodus 7:14-8:15

RE:flect

I am hoping that we will see a little deeper into the plagues than what we have learned in 2nd and 4th grade. Let us move deeper.

Moses is confronting what Egyptians see as “Ra’s representative on earth” (Ra was the sun god). Many believed Pharaoh to be a form of Ra, or a reincarnation of that power. So the spokesman of the God of the Hebrews (these 3 million people in Egypt) comes to challenge the god of the sun’s representative—this is a power encounter where the True and Living God is faithful to deliver AND brings glory to his name on earth—in effect his name will become “famous” in all the earth. The Lord, the famous one of Israel!

Twice here it is mentioned (and I really get amped up when I read the righteous holiness of the only trustworthy, all true and living God proclaim his own glory) that God wishes Pharaoh to KNOW him. By this you will know that I am the LORD” (Ex. 7:17)…. “…so that you know that there is no one like the LORD our God, “ (Ex. 8:10). This is when two world collide.

RE:act

Do you live your life, use your words to remind everyone that “There is no one like our God?” Not that you are bragging that you have done anything but run into the message of Jesus, consider the claims, the evidence, and place your faith (trust) and lay all of your life now and in the future in the power of God to save you from the judgment he warns. So with that much said…

Are you in the habit of looking for situations and sacred moments where God has placed you there, at that time, with those people so that you can say/do something that proclaims “There is no other God like the God of the Christians…. No other God like our God.” It is not an every road leads to Rome world. I am sure that the men of a ship are glad that in the midst of the storm, the fog and the rain the captain looks at the lighthouses and says, “There is just one way to get out alive. To line all of these houses together, behind each other. This is the only way we are going to live.” Sometimes it is only those on the ship that understand the dangers in the rocks beneath the waters, and the cliffs on the shore, that realize—“we are not the ones who get to decide what do do here—either we follow the marked out route, or we die.”

So perhaps you will also have opportunities in your life to lay down the seeds of sharing God’s word. Perhaps if I lived my life again in high school I would say, “Wait. Wait 10 years and watch your life, watch my life. What what I do well, and fail at. Watch the supernatural wisdom, guidance and power that I claim is acting on my behalf and not against me—then you will see the Living God of the universe has made himself known and wishes to guide and save all who will call upon him for help. Cause, many won’t get your faith until they have 3 kids between two marriages and $100,000 of financial debt, with bad habits at your 10 year reunion.

RE:ply

Lord, there has been a lot to take in during this week of reading.

Lord, help me to want the right things. To not want my life to be like Moses’ life – but my faith to be like his, or surpass his cause of his example. Help me to not fail you.

Lord, make me a strong voice and prepare to give an answer, a hope and a persuasive argument what some one is truly asking to understand who you are… and who we can be when we are “in Jesus”.

Thank you for Jesus.

I will exalt you my God and King; I will praise your name for ever and ever. Everyday I will praise your name for ever and ever. Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. One generation will commend your works to another; they will tell of your mighty acts. (Psalm 145:1-4)
